Mike transitioned from military service after 30+ years in the U.S. Army. Upon transition, he completed a fellowship wherein he began professional coaching. Mike’s coaching and consulting experience includes for- and non-profit chief executives, business owners, senior executives and their teams, and military leaders serving in command positions. He accepted a temporary professorship at the Army War College where he coaches, teaches, and mentors senior U.S. and international military officers and U.S. government civilians as they make their transition to senior leadership positions in their respective services.
A 1989 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Mike commissioned as an Infantry officer and subsequently commanded at the platoon-(40 people), company-(150 people), battalion-(800 people), and brigade-level (2500+ people). In addition to his command billets, Mike served as a combat analyst, the chief of operations for an Army Division, a senior coach/trainer at the Joint Readiness Training Center, a faculty member at the Naval War College, and, more recently, the Assistant Chief of Staff for the International Security Assistance Force in Kabul. In these and other capacities, his assignments led him across the U.S. and to locales as varied as Germany, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, South Sudan, the Central African Republic, Korea, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Immediately prior to his assignment to the U.S. Mission to the UN, he also served as a Chief of Staff of the Army Military Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York City.
Mike is Professional Certified Coach (PCC) trained and holds the International Coaching Federation credential. He also serves as a board member for VetStarts, a non-profit organization that helps military veterans pursue purpose following their military service. In addition to his military training and specialty courses, Mike holds a Master of Science in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California and a Master of Arts in Strategic Studies with highest distinction from the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.
