Director, Admissions

at Heroic Public Speaking HQ

What We Believe

We believe that a speech has the power to change the world and the people in it—including the speaker.

What We Do

Heroic Public Speaking helps thought leaders with transformational ideas leverage their ideas and the power of performance to move audiences (and themselves) to think, feel, and act differently. Heroic is a place of intense energy and creativity, built on a foundation of creative and intellectual excellence. With its longstanding commitments to community and integrity, Heroic is the ideal laboratory for leaders to create signature intellectual property, prepare to give the greatest speeches of their lives, and write books that are revered and dog-eared.

Who We Do It For

  • Professional speakers and soon-to-be professional speakers.
  • Entrepreneurs who use speaking to build their brands and book more business.
  • Mission-driven people who want to advance a cause or lead a movement.
  • Executives who need to move people towards a big vision.

Who & Where We Are

We're a small and fast growing company founded by industry icons Amy and Michael Port with headquarters in Lambertville, NJ. Michael is a NY Times, WSJ, and USA Today bestselling author of nine books. He sold his first company, Book Yourself Solid Worldwide, before starting Heroic with Amy in 2014.

We are looking for someone with sales acumen, who also understands the speaking and thought leadership industry. Because we take an honest and consultative approach to sales, we believe that someone who has participated in the industry will be the best guide for our potential students, as they determine their path to success with Heroic.

You will get exposure to the evolving nature of our company, renowned for its unwavering commitment to honesty and integrity. We are in search of a candidate whose character is reflective of our company values—someone who holds integrity in high regard and acts with transparency and sincerity in all interactions.

We're looking for someone who is comfortable with ambiguity and possesses an ownership mindset. As the Director, Admissions you will report to the COO and have responsibility for meeting our admissions and revenue growth objectives. Your responsibilities will include developing key growth strategies, tactics, and action plans, partnering with candidates to map out their education path, as well as the development, training, and management of sales associates in the future.

We value people who exhibit a strong moral compass, a commitment to ethical behavior, and a willingness to go above and beyond to maintain the trust and respect we’ve earned from our students and in the marketplace.

  • Own and hit/exceed annual admissions targets.
  • Develop and execute strategic plans to achieve targets and expand our student base.
  • Execute candidate calls and build relationships.
  • Events based sales responsibilities and presentations (In NJ monthly, except August)
  • Partner with students to understand their business needs and objectives.
  • Be an effective brand representative of Heroic.
  • Develop and document sales approach and methodology for Heroic.
  • Understand category-specific landscapes and trends.
  • Analyze and report on sales trends, outcomes, and operations.

Requirements & skills

  • Proven sales, consulting, coaching or admissions experience.
  • Ability to communicate, present and influence all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to drive the admissions or sales process from plan to close.
  • Ability to articulate the distinct aspects of Heroic’s products and services.
  • Proven ability to position products against competitors.
  • Excellent listening, negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong mentorship and team building skills.

We don’t really care where you went to school or what level of education you’ve achieved. We care about who you are and how you show up in the world now. We have an intelligent and sophisticated group of people working together who share values.

To excel in this role, you need to:

  • Enjoy taking ownership of high-stakes initiatives.
  • Take well-informed risks, not shy away from them.
  • Manage multiple priorities and meet a deadline while maintaining an emphasis on detail and excellent follow-through.
  • Take direction and respond well to feedback while also having the confidence to improve company processes.
  • Ability to collaborate and work in support of other teammates, as well as work independently.
  • An appreciation for drama on the stage or TV but a preference to avoid it on a day-to-day basis.
  • A high degree of technical savvy is needed. We leverage the latest data-driven technologies to drive decision making and to facilitate collaboration with our primarily remote team.

We are an organization focused on growth through learning in action. We have big goals and we know that we’ll only achieve our goals if everyone at Heroic believes that the future belongs to the learner. We expect excellence from ourselves and the people around us and we accomplish this by developing people, not just processes.

We’re a company that values and embraces technology; you must be comfortable learning and using modern processing and communication applications, like Google Suite, Hubspot, ClickUp, and Slack.

Salary for this position depends on experience level, plus health and retirement benefits that increase your total compensation package. Compensation packages are revisited annually at the end of the calendar year.

  • 4 weeks PTO (+ official holidays). We love and respect brain breaks.
  • Platinum health insurance plan. We share the premiums for you and your dependents, if you choose to enroll.
  • Monthly cash allowance for your computer and phone.
  • Paid for professional development opportunities.
  • 401k

The vast majority of your work will be remote but you’ll attend at least one event per month to lead the sales effort and teach other relevant classes like the business of speaking. Expectation of travel to Lambertville is twice per month.

  • Your resume.
  • A cover letter.
  • A 1 - 2 minute video introducing yourself. Tell us why you want this job. Please note that we aren’t expecting high production value, we just want to hear from you.
  • Links to your public social media profiles. (If you don’t have these, just explain why in your cover letter.)

We can’t promise to interview everyone who applies for a position at Heroic Public Speaking, but we promise to review every application that is submitted. The HPS Core Four

1. We can do more together than we can alone.

By bringing in fresh insights and diverse perspectives, we learn more and feel more connected to the work we do. Collaboration is essential to the growth of our minds and our business.

2. We pursue mastery of craft.

In everything we do, we choose to hold ourselves to the highest standards. We bring an attitude of excellence to our work; we strive constantly to develop our craft, our character, and each other.

3. We are always performers, never critics.

Seeing the world through the eyes of a performer is critical to the creative process. We keep our minds open; we respect and honor that there are many different ways to approach the work we get to complete in our lives. We don’t waste time being petty, small, negative, or judgmental.

4. We make and keep promises.

Results and reputation are dependent on our ability to make commitments and fulfill them. When we do what we say we are going to do, doors open and opportunities abound.
