Amy Port is the co-founder and Director of Training for Heroic Public Speaking. After earning her MFA in Acting from The Yale School of Drama, she spent years acting professionally in theaters such as Seattle Repertory, Oregon Shakespeare and Yale Rep, and working consistently in commercials.

Amy has assisted the Speech faculty at Yale Drama, taught acting in multiple sessions at Northwestern University, and has spent the last fifteen years mentoring teachers and speakers in bringing the hard skills of performance to their craft.

Dan Cordle

Dan Cordle is the founder of The Film Practice and Scribe Films and the Director of the Chekhov Film Project.

A producer and director, Dan taught improvisation for 9 years at NYU’s Graduate Acting Program, including his one-of-a-kind course, “Improvisation for the Camera.” AND… he was Michael’s teacher at the Grad Acting Program at NYU. So, you’re getting the master teacher’s master teacher.

Dan has an M.F.A. from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and studied at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts and at The American Conservatory Theatre.

Ursula Meyer

Ursula Meyer has been teaching Voice for thirty years. She taught at the Yale School of Drama and U.C.San Diego and has coached voice, speech & accents extensively in regional theatres such as The Guthrie, Yale Repertory Theatre, South Coast Repertory, the Old Globe Theatre, the La Jolla Playhouse, the Utah, Santa Cruz, and Idaho Shakespeare Festivals, and for fifteen seasons with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

She graduated with distinction from the Advanced Voice Studies Program at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London. As a professional actress, she worked at the Seattle Repertory Theatre, Milwaukee Repertory Theater, La Jolla Playhouse, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Shakespeare Santa Cruz, and various other Shakespeare Festivals throughout the country.

She has had the great privilege of training and coaching prominent actors such as Paul Giamatti, Blair Underwood, Liev Schreiber, Richard Thomas, Kathryn Meisle, Sanaa Lathan, Malcolm Gets, Suzanne Cryer, Tom McGowan, Amy Aquino, and Heroic Public Speaking Co-Founder Amy Port.

Fay Simpson

Associate Arts Professor at NYU’s Graduate Acting Program (Movement).

Founder of The Lucid Body; a process of physical acting.

Fay Simpson has been the Artistic Director and co-founder of Impact Theatre since its creation in 1990. Informed by her work in the rehearsal room, the teaching studio and onstage over the last 20 years, Ms. Simpson has developed a unique physical training method for the actor called The Lucid Body. She has taught at The Yale School of Drama, the New School’s Eugene Lang, Michael Howard Studios, The Studio/NY, Marymount Manhattan College, and at the Actor’s Center. She runs private classes and workshops at her own studio The Lucid Body House in midtown Manhattan, as well as in Berlin and London.

She coaches for film and TV as well as stage (Lupita Nyong’o in 12 Years A Slave and in Eclipsed soon to be on Broadway; Annaleigh Ashford in Sylvia with Mathew Broderick currently on Broadway; Amanda Warren The Leftovers on HBO in 2014.)

Fay wrote The Lucid Body; A Guide for the Physical Actor, published in 2008 by Allworth Press. She has trained seven teachers who now teach the Lucid Body in Texas, New York, London, Berlin and Moscow. The next Lucid Body Teacher Training program starts in 2016.

Trained at the legendary Second City and named one of the “Top 10 Creative Canadians” by Marketing Magazine, Ron has been an actor, comedian, and award-winning advertising writer and creative director for some of the world’s most respected brands, including Air France, Evian, Hershey, Johnson & Johnson, Kraft, Intel, Microsoft, Volvo and many others. His work has been recognized by The London International Advertising Awards, The New York Festivals of Advertising, The Crystals, The Extras, The Canadian Marketing Association, and The Marketing Awards, to name just a few.

Tite is also Executive Producer and Host of the Canadian Comedy Award-winning show Monkey Toast and is a featured marketing expert on the new Mark Burnett business reality show, Dream Funded. He has written for a number of other television series, penned a children’s book, and wrote, performed, and produced the play, The Canadian Baby Bonus.

Currently, he is CEO of The Tite Group, a content marketing agency based in Toronto. His upcoming book, Everyone’s An Artist (Or At Least They Should Be), will be published by HarperCollins in the spring of 2016.

  • Movement: Master & Control Body Language While Performing

  • Suresh Babu I was one of those quiet observers in Fort Lauderdale a few weeks ago. When I was a little girl, I would sit on the toilet and give my "lectures" to doors and stuffed animals. As an adult I teach sales people and my youth group. HOWEVER, I have been toying with an idea for years... but never followed through. BUT BECAUSE OF ALL OF YOU, I AM!!!!!!!!! I love running and I wanted to create a program to team kids up with their parents or others to spend quality time together while training for a 5k. Many of us are simply too disengaged and we need to reconnect with our loved ones. For me, running time is when I do that. So, I am going to get out there and begin PERFORMING as I launch my program. I used the lessons I learned in HPS live and at the end two of the mothers said they couldn't believe how I was able to keep the girls completely engaged for 2 hours. Lastly, how’d you like to spend three days rubbing shoulders with the most influential and prolific speakers in the industry? Because that’s exactly what you’ll have: three days unprecedented access to best speakers in the business. Ask questions, get answers, get inspired!

Why this is important

  • Have full command of your audience. They’ll be hanging on your every word, even if they don’t know you from Adam! That means you can get them doing what you want, when you want.
  • Give a performance, not a speech, so you get a rousing round of applause when you’re done, and you’ll get rave reviews from the entire room.
  • Do away with PowerPoint. Put down the clicker that fires bullet points and kills speeches. Instead, make every speech a gripping, pre-planned spontaneous improvisation.

  • Make every audience member an important part of the story, whether you’ve got 4 or 4,000 people in the room. When they’re fully invested, they’ll play full out … and make more investments.
  • LEAVE OUT the most important parts of your speech, so that your audience can fill in the gaps and make your story come alive for them. (It’s the secret to being “everything to everybody”).
  • Use ethical, emotional and logical persuasion tactics to move audiences to take action.
  • Create a winning combination of scripting and outlining so your structure flows effortlessly and you never forget where you are—and if you do, it’ll be easy to get right back on track.
  • Sound big, bold and powerful using voice techniques known by only the best-trained actors and singers.
  • Rehearse like the pros—rehearsal is the key to success and if you don’t know how to do it right, you won’t do it at all.
  • Handle nerves pre-show so you’re confident and compelling.
  • Find your own special, unique and exciting speaking style. Not everyone is like Tony Robbins (nor should they be). You can turn in a Meryl Streep quality speech standing in one place and speaking softly.
